Tractor tire treads are designed for specific applications and terrains.

The tread type affects the tire's performance and its impact on the ground.

Here are the main types of tractor tire treads:

  • R-1:  Common tread type for general farm use, providing good traction under average soil conditions.  Can be radial or bias ply construction.
  • R-1W:  Deeper tread than R-1, ideal for general farming, construction, or transport applications.  Offers excellent traction in the field and wears well on the highway.
  • R-2:  Designed for extremely muddy or heavy traction soil conditions such as rice, sugar cane, and heavily irrigated soils.  Tread is at least two times deeper than an R-1 tire.
  • R-3:  Designed to minimize soil disturbance, typically 1/2 as deep as an R-1 tread.  Best used for farming in sandy soils where traction and flotation are needed.
  • R-4:  Industrial design with a wider tread for improved stability, traction, and hard surface use.  Minimizes soil disruption and is puncture-resistant.

Each tread type is suited for specific tasks and terrains, so it's important to choose the right tread pattern for the intended application.
