In general, agricultural tractors and trailers are required to have two red lamps to the rear and two white lamps to the front

Tractors and self-propelled equipment traveling at 25 mph or less must also be equipped with headlamps, tail lamps, warning lamps, and turn indicators.

For equipment that can travel at speeds greater than 25 miles per hour, the same lights and markers as equipment that travels at 25 miles per hour or less are required, along with two rear-facing stop lights that activate when the brakes are applied.

Additionally, two flashing amber warning lights must be mounted at the same height and spaced apart on the tractor.

The FMVSS Requirements for tractors include front clearance lamps, front identification lamps, and front side marker lamps.

To operate on public roads, agricultural tractors and trailers must comply with certain lighting requirements to ensure the safety of both the equipment operators and other drivers.

Here are the lighting requirements for tractors on public roads:

  • Tractors and self-propelled equipment that travel at 25 miles per hour or less must carry headlamps, tail lamps, warning lamps, and turn indicators.
  • Tractors and self-propelled equipment that can travel at speeds greater than 25 miles per hour should carry the same lights and markers as equipment that travels at 25 miles per hour or less, along with two rear-facing stop lights that activate when the brakes are applied.
  • All agricultural motor vehicles must be fitted with two red lamps to the rear and two white lamps to the front.
  • Tractors are required to be fitted with a flashing amber beacon, which must be switched on when in use.
  • Tractors and other self-propelled equipment must display lighting from sunset to sunrise.
  • Two flashing amber warning lights must be mounted at the same height and spaced apart on the tractor.
  • Tractors must also have an SMV (slow-moving vehicle) sign mounted 3 to 5 feet above the ground at the rear of the vehicle.

It is important to note that lighting requirements may vary by state, so it is essential to check the specific regulations in your area before operating a tractor on public roads.
