I Want to Maintain My Tractor Brakes
Maintaining tractor brakes is an important part of tractor maintenance.
Here are some tips on how to maintain tractor brakes:
- Avoid side slipping: During use, try to avoid side slipping, as this can cause unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes.
- Use high-quality brake lubricant: Utilize a high-quality brake lubricant recommended by the manufacturer, following their instructions for application. Regular lubrication helps to keep the brakes in good condition.
- Regularly check the brakes: Regularly check that the brakes and parking brakes are in good order. Check your foot brakes and parking brakes daily.
- Apply the parking brake: Always apply the parking brake and use the safe stop procedure when stopping vehicles.
- Ensure all guards are in place: Ensure all guards are in place on tractors and equipment, especially PTO guards.
- Replace worn brake pads: If the brake linings are badly worn or oil-soaked, you may need to replace them. For a lawn tractor, remove the transaxle from the tractor, remove the brake pads, install new brake pads using a highly adhesive bonding agent or contact cement, and reinstall the parts in the order they were removed. For a farm tractor, remove the rear wheels, unhook the brake linkage from the cam, remove the bolts from the cover, remove the brake pads, install new brake pads, and test the brake pedal.
- Wash the brake linings: If the brake linings aren't badly worn or oil-soaked, you may be able to bring them back to life simply by washing them with hot water and detergent.
Proper and professional tractor maintenance and an effective tractor braking system are vital for daily farming operations. By following these tips, you can help ensure that your tractor brakes are in good condition and working properly.
