Drug Use and Tractor Safety

Operating compact tractors while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extremely dangerous and should never be done. 

Here are the key points about drug use and compact tractor operation:

• Impaired operation:  Drugs and alcohol significantly impair an operator's skill, judgment, and reaction time when operating a compact tractor.  This greatly increases the risk of accidents.
• Safety hazard:  Using compact tractors requires full attention and coordination.  Any substance that alters mental state or physical abilities creates a serious safety hazard.
• Strictly prohibited:  Operating tractors or other heavy machinery while impaired by drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited and illegal in most jurisdictions.
• Increased accident risk:  Fatigue, stress, medication, alcohol and drugs can all detract from safe tractor operation and increase the likelihood of rollovers or other accidents.
• Operator responsibility:  It is the tractor operator's responsibility to be fully alert and capable of safely operating the equipment.  This means refraining from any substance use.
• Company policies:  Most employers have strict policies against working while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, especially when operating machinery like tractors.
• Proper rest:  Instead of using substances, operators should ensure they are well-rested and take breaks as needed to maintain alertness.

The safe operation of compact tractors requires an operator's full mental and physical capabilities.  Any drug or alcohol use that impairs these abilities puts the operator and others at severe risk.

Tractor operation should only be done when completely sober and alert.
