To grow corn successfully, timing is crucial. You need to know the best planting times.

Ideal Planting Time

Corn should be planted 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost in spring.  This timing helps avoid frost damage, which can severely affect germination and growth.  The soil temperature should be at least 60 to 65°F (15 to 18°C) for optimal germination.  Planting in cold, wet soil can lead to seed rot.

In many regions of the United States, late March to early April is considered a good time to plant corn.  However, this can vary based on local climate conditions and frost dates.  For areas with cooler climates, planting should ideally align with the warming weather as summer approaches.  In contrast, in tropical regions, corn can be planted year-round, but the dry season is preferred for better results.

To extend the harvest period, consider planting corn in successive batches every 3 weeks.  This method allows for a staggered harvest and can help manage the workload during peak harvest times.

Corn thrives in daytime temperatures between 68-86°F (20-30°C). Consistent warm weather is essential for healthy growth and pollination.

By following these guidelines, you can maximize your chances of a successful corn crop.
